Application

  • Students must apply to attend a DI Program in Fresno Unified
    • Single Application Form
    • Transfer application request due between September 1st and December 1st for priority consideration

Language Assessment

  • Student’s Primary Language must be indicated on the application
    • The Language Assessment Center will assess the student’s Spanish Language skills, if applying for the first time in grades 1st – 12th
    • Language Assessment is not needed if applying in grades PreK, TK, or K
    • Parents will receive assessment and eligibility results following assessment

Admission

  • Applications must be submitted to the Transfers Office
    • The Transfers Office will notify applicants regarding placement after a randomized computer lottery to place eligible students

Acceptance into a DI program Grades 1 – 12, after the start of first grade:

  1. Students who submit a transfer application and request placement in a DI program, for grades 1 – 12, will be referred to the Language Assessment Center to complete an assessment of their knowledge of the target language (Spanish).
  2. The Transfers Office will send the Language Assessment Center a list of the applicants’ Name, ID #, Parent/Guardian Name, and current phone numbers.
  3. The Language Assessment Center will contact parents and schedule the assessment.
  4. The Language Assessment Center will inform parents of the student’s test results, at the completion of the assessment. Parents will also receive a copy of the assessment results for their records. The Language Assessment Center will send assessment results to the Transfers Office.
    1. Students in grade 1 will be assessed on listening and speaking skills in the target language (Spanish) at their current grade level at time of assessment and must score a minimum of 3 overall on a scale of 1-5.
    2. Students in grades 2-12 will be assessed in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the target language at their current grade level at time of assessment and must score a minimum of 3 overall on a scale of 1-5.
  5. Should Parents/Guardians have any question as to the student’s knowledge of the target language (Spanish) and/or assessment, the Transfer’s Office will refer Parent/Guardian to the Language Assessment Center.

Acceptance into a DI program Grades PreK, TK, and K:

Students who submit a transfer application and request placement in a DI program for
grades PreK, TK, and K and indicate knowledge of the target language (Spanish), will be
referred to the Language Assessment Center to complete an assessment of their knowledge
of the target language (Spanish).

  1. The Transfers Office will send the Language Assessment Center a list of the applicants’ Name, ID #, Parent/Guardian Name, Address, and current phone numbers.
  2. The Language Assessment Center will contact parents and schedule the assessment.
  3. The Language Assessment Center will inform parents of the student’s test results, at the completion of the assessment. Parents will also receive a copy of the assessment results for their records. The Language Assessment Center will send assessment results to the Transfers Office. If student does not pass the assessment of the target language (Spanish), indicated on their Transfer application, the language on the original application will be changed to English and be included in the English applicant eligibility pool.
    1. Students in grades PS, TK, and K will be assessed on listening and speaking skills in the target language (Spanish) and must score a minimum of 3 overall on a scale of 1-5. Students will be assessed in target language at their current grade level at time of assessment.
    2. Should Parents/Guardians have any question as to the student’s knowledge of the target language (Spanish) and/or assessment, the Transfer’s Office will refer Parent/Guardian to the Language Assessment Center.

The Transfers Office will inform parents and school site Principal of program placement. *

*Language Assessment may be required after notification of placement. Assessment results may result in a change of placement.
